Franklin 6VS335

I have seen various Franklin engine maunals for the 6VS335 (turbocharged) engine. Does anyone know the application for that engine and was it ever used in a Hiller?

Has anyone flown the H23 with the supercharger? Was it worth the maintenance headache? did it cause accelerated wear of the tail rotor pinion in the transmission?

the 6VS335 engine was originally installed in a Bell 47G3 helicopter. it was installed in the hiller by carson helicopters by STC. my UH-12C at one time had one installed and by the logbook entries it had a lot of cylinder problems. i dont know if it was the engine or poor maintenance. it would be good for altitude operations, but rounding up the parts for the installation would be difficult as they didnt make a lot of them.

I flew a SL3 in Wyoming once, It was great, had Parsons rotor blades and a Stability Augmentation System (SAS), the company also had a SL4, but the rotor blades were hard to come by. (It had hydraulics, no paddles)
I wish I could have flown it more.

The SL was a misnomer of sorts, really a "L" with the optional Lycoming TIVO-540-A2A. a 315 horsepower "Turbosupercharged" engine. I am not making up the word "Turbosupercharged". Great high altitude machine.

I would also like to know more about this engine. I'm looking at a 12c with the turbo. How do they stack up against the regular 12c? Are parts available? Should I just get a 12b/c from United for 20k more, but has a warranty and zero time?

Hi All,
I'm new to this site, but i reasently bought a 23 Ravens (UH-12B) 1955 modle a week ago. yes it a old military trainer. it has a 335 franklin 210 HP. i havent got it home yet,but hope to soon. i was thinking about the same as some of you about the turbo. i pulled an old franklin book this morning at my shop and sure enough it has a 335 with a turbo on it in the book. BUT,i think it was a -5 instead of a -6 like mine is. form what i can figure out about the turbo is that it only help to maintain the oxygen level at or above 5000 ft. i was woundering about putting a turbo on each side of the ex. a t3 with t4 fins . but i want to fly this thing not blow it up. i will find out more and post it at a later date.
